Today, we had the honor of welcoming Roberta Hoskie, author of Poverty Curse Broken: The Roberta Hoskie Story, to our school. She spoke at our Parent Team Meeting to members of our school community and then to our 8th grade crews.
A New Haven native and graduate of New Haven Public Schools, Ms. Hoskie shared her powerful journey from growing up in our community to becoming a successful Real Estate Developer, Tedx Speaker, Author, and Founder of the Millionaire Mindset Sisterhood. She reflected on her time here as a student at Conte and Truman School, when taught by our very own Ms. Rosa, bringing her story full circle in the most meaningful way.
Her messages were powerful, inspiring, and motivating:
✨ Whatever problem you may encounter, there is always a solution.
✨ Start by writing down your goals.
✨ Build multiple-streams of income.
✨ Create the ladder that everyone else climbs up. Be the boss!
Our students were challenged to think deeply about what success really means, overcome challenges, and believe in themselves!
We are grateful to Roberta Hoskie for sharing her story, wisdom, and belief in our students. 🦁💙📚

Dear Conte West Hills Magnet School Families,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to share an important update regarding our PreK program's schedule for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
Beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, our PreK program will align its start and end times with the rest of our school:
New PreK Hours:
Start Time: 9:05 AM
End Time: 3:20 PM
We wanted to communicate this change early to allow families ample time to plan and adjust their schedules accordingly. This adjustment is part of our district-wide initiative to streamline start and end times across third-tier schools, promoting consistency and operational efficiency.
If you have any questions or concerns about this schedule change, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Warm regards,
Principal Sloley

Dear Conte Teachers, Students, Staff & Families,
Happy New Year! As we step into the new year of 2026, we are re-energized in welcoming you back to school to finish off this academic year, Conte Strong! Our journey continues with our theme: Learn, Lead, and Leap, a mantra that encapsulates our commitment to educational excellence and personal growth.
This year brings changes and renewed opportunities. There have been a few changes in school assignments. We want to thank Assistant Superintendent DeNegre for her support over the past few years. We would like to welcome Assistant Superintendent Camacho, who will serve as our Assistant Superintendent, bringing continued support to our Conte school community. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what's possible for our lions.
As we embark on this new year, we want to remind each of you of the incredible potential we hold:
Learn: Embrace curiosity, challenge yourself, and remain open to new knowledge and perspectives.
Lead: Take initiative, support one another, and demonstrate the leadership qualities that make our school community exceptional.
Leap: Be bold in your aspirations, innovative in your approaches, and courageous in pursuing educational excellence.
We want to see all our Conte Lions in school tomorrow 01/05/26. Families remember that Tuesday, 01/06/26 we have 'no school' in honor of Three Kings Day, then our lions return for the remainder of the week.
Our strength lies in our unity, our diversity, and our commitment to transforming lives through education. Wishing you all an inspiring and successful start and progress throughout 2026!
Thank you,
Principal Sloley

Dear Conte Community,
As we approach the holiday season and prepare to welcome 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on our theme for this year: Learn, Lead, Leap.
You've all embodied these words in remarkable ways. We have learned with curiosity and resilience, led with compassion and integrity, and leaped beyond our perceived limitations. Our journey has been nothing short of amazing.
The holidays are a time of reflection and renewal. As you spend time with loved ones, remember that every leap begins with a single step of courage. In 2026, we challenge each of you to:
Learn something new that challenges your perspective
Lead with empathy and vision, no matter your role
Leap into opportunities that once seemed out of reach
Our strength lies not just in our individual potential, but in our collective spirit as a Conte community of innovation and support.
Wishing you and your families a restful, joyful holiday season. See you in 2026, ready to learn, lead, and leap together!
Warm regards,
Principal Sloley
